2. State the Week's reasoning question

A worked pass at holding one problem statement steady

The characteristic Week 2 failure is drift. The population named at the start quietly becomes a different population by the time evidence arrives, and nobody notices because each individual sentence is true. Work against it mechanically: keep the four-part problem sentence pinned at the top of the working file, and after every new paragraph check that the population, the place and period, the determinant, and the outcome are still the same ones. A draft that opens with working-age adults in one county and then supports its central claim with a national figure covering all ages has changed the population twice in three paragraphs.

The fix is not to delete the wider source. Wider figures are useful as context, and saying that a local pattern sits above or below a national level is a legitimate move. The fix is to label the shift inside the sentence: present the wider figure as context, then return to the level of the claim for the claim itself. Once the statement holds still, build the cadence around it. A repeatable week reads the live activity and rubric first, captures sources second, outlines against criteria third, drafts the highest-risk criterion fourth, runs the check fifth, and submits and records sixth.
