2. State the Week's reasoning question

3. Build the work in proof order

Define the population and baseline, trace determinants and system constraints, compare interventions, and connect the recommendation to implementation and evaluation.

Make a rubric-to-evidence matrix before prose: one row per criterion, the evidence or reasoning needed, where it will appear, what the student must personally do, and the test that will prove completion. Draft the highest-risk row first, not necessarily the introduction. Protect time for replies, calculations, format conversion, approvals, and the final upload.

Worked reasoning: making the mechanism visible

Showing reasoning means writing the steps between the evidence and the conclusion so that a reader can disagree with a specific one. In this subject those steps are causal and organizational, and the most common failure is a paragraph that jumps from a documented problem straight to a chosen technology.

Work the chain forward in writing. Begin with the observed gap in the population you named. State the determinant that produces it and say how, in mechanical terms: what the current process forces someone to do, what data is unavailable at the moment of a decision, where a handoff loses information, which step is duplicated. Then state what a candidate intervention changes about that mechanism, and only that. An intervention that does not touch the named determinant is a mismatch, and naming the mismatch out loud is itself reasoning worth showing.

Next, make the comparison visible. Two or three candidate approaches, each judged against the same criteria, does more than one option defended at length, because a single option cannot demonstrate judgment. Use criteria the course already supplies: equity, feasibility, stakeholder effects, measurement validity, and unintended consequences. Finally, connect the choice to implementation and evaluation in the same passage, since a recommendation with no path and no measure is an opinion.

Reading the rubric row by row when analysis is the target

That is a structural instruction hiding inside a scoring criterion, and getting it backwards costs credit in a draft that is otherwise correct. Your classroom rubric decides which pattern applies, and if the wording is genuinely ambiguous, the instructor, not a template, is the place to resolve it.

4. Use evidence deliberately

Use current surveillance, policy, organizational, and peer-reviewed evidence at the same geographic and population level as the claim.

For every source, write a one-line use note before drafting. Distinguish direct evidence from interpretation and local observation. Quote sparingly, paraphrase from understanding, and cite the claim actually supported. If the activity requires current evidence, confirm publication dates and whether an older foundational source is still appropriate.

Sources that carry an argument rather than decorate it

A reasoning Week raises the standard for what a source has to do. Decorative citation, where a reference sits at the end of a sentence you would have written anyway, satisfies a count and nothing else. A load-bearing citation is one whose removal would break the claim.

Build the difference into your reading. For each source, write not just the finding but the shape of the evidence: what design produced it, in what population, over what period, and against what comparison. In this subject, design matters unevenly. A controlled study is strong for the question of whether an intervention changed an outcome. An implementation report is weak for that question and strong for the question of what it takes to make the change happen at all. A standards document establishes what correct looks like, not what is effective. Matching design to question is the skill this Week rewards.

Then place the source where the argument bends. The natural spot is immediately after you assert a mechanism, so the reader sees the assertion and the support in the same breath, followed by your own sentence on what the source cannot settle. That limitation sentence is where the boundary between association and causation usually has to be handled. Required sources, permitted types, currency windows, and citation style remain whatever the live instructions say they are.

5. Complete discussions and collaborative work

When the live Week contains a discussion, schedule the initial post by its own deadline and each reply by the response window. A useful reply does more than agree: compare evidence, apply the peer's idea to a different context, identify a boundary, or ask a focused question supported by the course material. The student writes and posts every contribution; a tutor may critique clarity and reasoning before submission.

6. Protect identity, practice, and research boundaries

Do not share protected health information, employer secrets, client identities, private peer content, assessment security material, or unauthorized research data. 7. Run the Week 3 quality gate

Three Week 3 pitfalls and the fix for each

The first pitfall is the solution-first paragraph. The draft opens by naming a system, a dashboard, or a workflow change, and the rest of the paragraph is justification working backwards. The fix is to write the determinant paragraph before the intervention paragraph and refuse to name any candidate solution until the mechanism is on the page.

9. Defend the learning before moving on

This oral defense tests understanding more honestly than another formatting pass and turns the finished Week into preparation for Week 4.
