1. Capture the live Week 6

2. State the Week's reasoning question

For Dissertation, the durable class question is: What claim, question, method, evidence, or approval gate is this work advancing? Translate the live activity into one sentence that names the decision or explanation, the required evidence, the audience, and the expected output. If that sentence cannot be written, return to the prompt instead of guessing from a prior Week or third-party example.

Integrate earlier work without recycling it

Integration means that earlier concepts do work in the current problem, not that earlier text reappears. The distinction matters in a research sequence because a later activity almost always asks a new question about familiar material, and a reused paragraph answers the old one. Work it deliberately. List the three or four ideas from earlier Weeks that plausibly bear on the current task. For each, write one sentence naming what it explains here that nothing else explains. Discard any idea that survives only because you already understand it. Then write fresh prose from that sentence, keeping the concept and the method while leaving the previous wording behind, since a later prompt requires new reasoning, evidence, and authorship even when the underlying concept returns. Where a framework or model organizes the analysis, make its influence visible: name what the framework predicts, show what your evidence does, then say whether the two agree. An unnamed framework quietly shaping a draft is a weakness a careful reader will find.

3. Build the work in proof order

Keep problem, evidence, method, finding, limit, and implication aligned. Distinguish a course exercise from original research and never imply approval before the relevant reviewer grants it.

Make a rubric-to-evidence matrix before prose: one row per criterion, the evidence or reasoning needed, where it will appear, what the student must personally do, and the test that will prove completion. Draft the highest-risk row first, not necessarily the introduction. Protect time for replies, calculations, format conversion, approvals, and the final upload.

Reading the rubric row by row: coverage rows versus synthesis rows

Synthesis rows are scored on relationships and are easy to misread as coverage rows. A coverage row is satisfied when each required element appears. A synthesis row is satisfied only when the elements are connected, which means the draft contains sentences whose subject is one element and whose object is another. Go through the rubric and mark every row whose wording implies connection: integrate, relate, synthesize, compare, situate, build on. For each, find the connecting sentences in your draft and count them. If a marked row is served by a section that merely lists, the row is unmet even though nothing in the section is wrong. Check next whether the rubric expects integration across the course or within the current activity, because the two require different material. Then look at any ordering or organization rows, since synthesis is often carried by structure and a rubric may reward grouping by theme rather than by source. Your classroom rubric decides which of these are actually present.

4. Use evidence deliberately

Build a traceable evidence table with purpose, design, population or setting, result, limitation, and the exact sentence each source can support.

For every source, write a one-line use note before drafting. Distinguish direct evidence from interpretation and local observation. Quote sparingly, paraphrase from understanding, and cite the claim actually supported. If the activity requires current evidence, confirm publication dates and whether an older foundational source is still appropriate.

Organize the literature by argument, not by article

A source-by-source literature section is the clearest sign that integration has not happened yet. Reorganize by claim: write the three or four statements your literature supports, then list under each the sources that speak to it, including the ones that disagree. Disagreement is valuable and should be represented rather than smoothed away, because a body of research with a genuine dispute is more interesting than one that has been made to look unanimous. When two sources conflict, look for the reason in their designs, populations, or measures and write that reason down, since explaining a conflict is a stronger move than choosing a side. Work the reorganized material in by leading each paragraph with the claim and bringing the studies in as support and qualification, naming designs where the design matters. Keep the evidence table current as you rewrite, because integration usually reveals sources you no longer need and gaps you now have to fill. The classroom sets required readings, style, and recency.

5. Complete discussions and collaborative work

When the live Week contains a discussion, schedule the initial post by its own deadline and each reply by the response window. A useful reply does more than agree: compare evidence, apply the peer's idea to a different context, identify a boundary, or ask a focused question supported by the course material. The student writes and posts every contribution; a tutor may critique clarity and reasoning before submission.

6. Protect identity, practice, and research boundaries

Do not share protected health information, employer secrets, client identities, private peer content, assessment security material, or unauthorized research data. Clinical encounters, field hours, simulations, observations, interviews, group participation, proctored work, residencies, approvals, attestations, and original data collection must be completed and recorded by the student under the applicable Walden process.

7. Run the Week 6 quality gate

Audit alignment across the problem, question, method, analysis, conclusion, rubric, and current institutional milestone.

Then perform a literal instruction audit: every prompt part answered, rubric row visible, calculation reproducible, citation matched, heading and format correct, accessibility checked, file opened successfully, and confidential material removed. Compare against the current rubric, not a saved rubric from another section or term.

Three Week 6 pitfalls and their fixes

The first pitfall is reuse through convenience, pasting a passage from an earlier submitted activity because it covered similar ground. Even where a course permits building on prior work, the reused passage answers the earlier prompt and usually misses the current one, and any reuse policy is set by the classroom rather than assumed. The fix is to keep earlier work in a separate file you consult for method and lessons and never for language.

The second pitfall is the framework mentioned once in the introduction and never used again. The fix is to check that the framework's own terms appear in the analysis and the conclusion, and to remove the framework honestly if it turns out to be doing no work.

The third pitfall is integration by transition word, where sentences beginning with similarly and furthermore create the appearance of connection without any real relationship. The fix is to read every such sentence and ask what specifically is similar; if the answer takes more than a phrase, write the relationship out and delete the transition.

8. Submit and close the loop

The student performs the final upload or entry, opens the submitted artifact, confirms the timestamp and file, and saves the receipt. When feedback arrives, record each criterion result, instructor comment, correction, and lesson for Week 7. Contact the instructor or official support channel promptly for a missing, late, or technically failed submission.

9. Defend the learning before moving on

Before closing Week 6, the student should explain the live task, central claim or decision, strongest evidence, method or calculation, important limitation, and next action aloud without reading the submitted artifact. For a discussion, explain what the peer exchanges changed. For clinical, field, research, group, or proctored work, identify which parts the student personally performed and how they were verified. Any point that cannot be explained becomes the first short practice item for the next study session. This oral defense tests understanding more honestly than another formatting pass and turns the finished Week into preparation for Week 7.

Write the one-page account of the whole argument

Before Week 6 closes, write a single page stating the problem, the question, the framework or reasoning approach, the evidence base and its shape, the current claim, and the main limitation. Do it in your own words without opening the draft. This page is the integration test: anything you cannot produce from memory is either not yet understood or not yet decided. Compare it afterwards to the document and mark every disagreement, since the differences show where the draft says something you no longer believe. Keep the page and update it in later Weeks, because it is the fastest possible briefing for any conversation with a reviewer and the fastest way back into the work after a break. Note also which parts of the account depend on steps you do not control, and keep those steps described as pending rather than as done. Nothing in this exercise replaces the live prompt, and the registered classroom remains the authority on what the current activity actually requires.
