2. State the Week's reasoning question

Quote sparingly, paraphrase from understanding, and cite the claim actually supported. If the activity requires current evidence, confirm publication dates and whether an older foundational source is still appropriate.
Reading a source for mechanism rather than for a quotable line
Making reasoning visible changes what you need from a source. A quotation supplies language; a mechanism supplies the middle of your paragraph. Read with the second purpose in mind and the reading gets faster, because you are looking for one thing.
Different documents supply different parts of the chain. A primary study supplies a finding under stated conditions, and its methods section tells you what those conditions were: who was studied, at what ages, in what setting, with what design and what sample. Three Week 3 pitfalls and their fixes
The first pitfall is definition stacking. A draft opens with three paragraphs establishing terms, arrives at the halfway point with nothing asserted, and then rushes the analysis into a closing paragraph. The fix is a rule of one: one paragraph of orientation, then every following paragraph starts with a sentence that could be argued with. If a paragraph's first sentence cannot be disagreed with, it is definition and it belongs in a clause, not a paragraph.
The second pitfall is the age-blind claim. 9. Defend the learning before moving on
Before closing Week 3, the student should explain the live task, central claim or decision, strongest evidence, method or calculation, important limitation, and next action aloud without reading the submitted artifact. For a discussion, explain what the peer exchanges changed. For clinical, field, research, group, or proctored work, identify which parts the student personally performed and how they were verified. Any point that cannot be explained becomes the first short practice item for the next study session. This oral defense tests understanding more honestly than another formatting pass and turns the finished Week into preparation for Week 4.
