2. State the Week's reasoning question

Translate the live activity into one sentence that names the decision or explanation, the required evidence, the audience, and the expected output. If that sentence cannot be written, return to the prompt instead of guessing from a prior Week or third-party example.

3. Build the work in proof order

Keep problem, evidence, method, finding, limit, and implication aligned. Distinguish a course exercise from original research and never imply approval before the relevant reviewer grants it.

Make a rubric-to-evidence matrix before prose: one row per criterion, the evidence or reasoning needed, where it will appear, what the student must personally do, and the test that will prove completion. Draft the highest-risk row first, not necessarily the introduction. Protect time for replies, calculations, format conversion, approvals, and the final upload.

Carrying a finding across to an implication without overreaching

Week 4 asks the draft to say what follows from the evidence, and the failure mode is a leap. Build the crossing in four steps so the leap becomes a bridge. Step one: state the finding in the terms the study reports, including the population, the comparison, and the size or direction of the effect. Step two: state the condition under which that finding would transfer, naming the features of the setting that must match. Step three: state what would change if the finding held in the target setting, described as a practice, a policy, a process, or a decision. Step four: state what would have to be true for that change to fail, which is the honest version of a limitation.

Write those four sentences literally, in that order, before writing anything more elegant. Most overreach happens when steps two and four are skipped, leaving a finding and a recommendation touching each other with nothing in between.

A useful stress test is to ask who would have to act, with what resources, and under what authority. An implication no one could execute is a topic, not an implication. Naming a limit in your own sentence is stronger than being caught by a reader who noticed it first, and it keeps the argument credible where it is genuinely strong.

5. Complete discussions and collaborative work

When the live Week contains a discussion, schedule the initial post by its own deadline and each reply by the response window. A useful reply does more than agree: compare evidence, apply the peer's idea to a different context, identify a boundary, or ask a focused question supported by the course material. The student writes and posts every contribution; a tutor may critique clarity and reasoning before submission.

6. Protect identity, practice, and research boundaries

Do not share protected health information, employer secrets, client identities, private peer content, assessment security material, or unauthorized research data. 7. Run the Week 4 quality gate

For a discussion, explain what the peer exchanges changed. For clinical, field, research, group, or proctored work, identify which parts the student personally performed and how they were verified. Any point that cannot be explained becomes the first short practice item for the next study session. This oral defense tests understanding more honestly than another formatting pass and turns the finished Week into preparation for Week 5.

Three application failures in Week 4, and the repair for each

The first is the recommendation with no warrant. The draft moves from a finding to a proposed action in one sentence, and the reader is left to supply the reasoning. The repair is the four-step crossing: finding, transfer condition, change, and failure condition, each written as its own sentence before any of them are polished.

The second is claiming more than the design allows. An association becomes a cause, a pilot becomes a proven model, or a result in one setting becomes a general rule. The repair is to write the design of the source directly into the sentence for one draft cycle. If the sentence still reads well when it says that a single-site observational study reported an association, the claim is calibrated. If it collapses, the claim was resting on the citation rather than on the study.

The third is the single-source pivot, where one recent article quietly becomes the spine of the whole argument because it happened to be well written. The repair is to check whether any other source in the evidence table could support the same claim. If none can, either find one or reduce the claim to what one study can hold, and say plainly in the draft that the evidence base for that point is currently narrow.
