2. State the Week's reasoning question

3. Build the work in proof order

Define the population and baseline, trace determinants and system constraints, compare interventions, and connect the recommendation to implementation and evaluation.

Make a rubric-to-evidence matrix before prose: one row per criterion, the evidence or reasoning needed, where it will appear, what the student must personally do, and the test that will prove completion. Draft the highest-risk row first, not necessarily the introduction. Protect time for replies, calculations, format conversion, approvals, and the final upload.

Making the mechanism visible on the page

Week 3 is where the class stops rewarding definitions. A defensible claim in this subject has three visible parts: the statement, the evidence, and the connective sentence explaining why this evidence supports this statement for this population. The third part is the one most often missing, and it is the one reasoning criteria are written to find. Draft it deliberately: name the determinant, name the pathway by which it plausibly moves the outcome, and name the level at which that relationship was observed.

Write the chain out before compressing it. A determinant acts through a mechanism, the mechanism produces an intermediate change, and the intermediate change appears in a measured outcome. If a link is missing from the draft, the reader has to supply it, and a scorer is not obliged to. Where a link is uncertain, say so inside the sentence rather than in a hedge parked at the end. Stating a boundary is analysis; burying it is avoidance.

Showing arithmetic so a reader can repeat it

Any number in the draft should arrive with enough information to be reproduced: the raw figures, the denominator, the period, the place, and the operation performed. A rate reported without its base cannot be checked. A percentage change reported without both endpoints cannot be checked either. Reproducibility is not a formatting nicety in this subject; it is what separates an assertion from evidence.

Comparisons need the same discipline. When two figures sit side by side, state whether they were constructed the same way, and if they were not, say what that does to the comparison. When a change is described, distinguish an absolute difference from a relative one, because identical movement can be reported as small or large depending on which is chosen. 4. Use evidence deliberately

Use current surveillance, policy, organizational, and peer-reviewed evidence at the same geographic and population level as the claim.

For every source, write a one-line use note before drafting. Distinguish direct evidence from interpretation and local observation. Quote sparingly, paraphrase from understanding, and cite the claim actually supported. If the activity requires current evidence, confirm publication dates and whether an older foundational source is still appropriate.

Sources that carry reasoning rather than decorate it

By Week 3 the useful test for a source is not whether it is credible but whether it performs work the draft could not perform without it. Before a citation goes in, finish this sentence in your notes: this source is here because it supplies the denominator, or the tested relationship, or the official definition, or the operational constraint. If the sentence cannot be finished, the citation is decoration and the reference list is padded.

Match strength to function. Surveillance and official statistics are strong for counts, rates, and trends and weak for causal claims. Policy documents are authoritative for definitions, obligations, and boundaries and are not evidence of effect. Organizational reports describe how one system actually runs and rarely generalize. Peer-reviewed studies test relationships and carry design limits that belong in your sentence rather than in a footnote. When a source and a claim sit at different geographic or population levels, either move the claim or find a source at the level of the claim.

5. Complete discussions and collaborative work

When the live Week contains a discussion, schedule the initial post by its own deadline and each reply by the response window. A useful reply does more than agree: compare evidence, apply the peer's idea to a different context, identify a boundary, or ask a focused question supported by the course material. The student writes and posts every contribution; a tutor may critique clarity and reasoning before submission.

6. Protect identity, practice, and research boundaries

Do not share protected health information, employer secrets, client identities, private peer content, assessment security material, or unauthorized research data. Clinical encounters, field hours, simulations, observations, interviews, group participation, proctored work, residencies, approvals, attestations, and original data collection must be completed and recorded by the student under the applicable Walden process.

7. Run the Week 3 quality gate

Test equity, feasibility, stakeholder effects, measurement validity, unintended consequences, and the boundary between association and causation.

When feedback arrives, record each criterion result, instructor comment, correction, and lesson for Week 4. Contact the instructor or official support channel promptly for a missing, late, or technically failed submission.

9. Defend the learning before moving on

Before closing Week 3, the student should explain the live task, central claim or decision, strongest evidence, method or calculation, important limitation, and next action aloud without reading the submitted artifact. For a discussion, explain what the peer exchanges changed. For clinical, field, research, group, or proctored work, identify which parts the student personally performed and how they were verified. Any point that cannot be explained becomes the first short practice item for the next study session. This oral defense tests understanding more honestly than another formatting pass and turns the finished Week into preparation for Week 4.

Three Week 3 pitfalls and the repair for each

The first pitfall is the definition paragraph that substitutes for analysis. It restates a term, cites a source that also defines the term, and moves on. The repair is to allow one sentence of definition and then require the next sentence to do something with it: apply it to the named population, or use it to separate two options.

The second is the hidden middle step. A draft jumps from a determinant to an outcome in one move because the writer already believes the connection. The repair is to read each analytical paragraph asking what a skeptical reader would need in between, then write that sentence in.

The third is the unlabeled number. A figure appears with no period, no place, and no denominator, usually because it was copied while reading. The repair is a rule for the working file: no number is transcribed without its four attributes, and any number that arrives incomplete is either completed or cut before drafting starts.
